My name is Danni Wu and this is my first year at Limai Chinese American International School. currently I am student of Class 1, Grade 9 of Calvert Program. I believe it is my experience that makes me unique. My dad is a diplomat and has worked in different Chinese Embassies in the Middle East. I was lucky to have the opportunity of studying and travelling in many countries. I have studied in Algeria for 6 months, Lebanon at ACS (American Community School at Beirut) for 2 years, and Sudan at KICS (Khartoum International Community School) for 2 and a half years. All the experience at the international schools in different cultures have changed me into a different person.
At Khartoum International Community School, I was one of the Student Council Representatives, and an active student who loves sports. Being the year group representative for two years, I have developed a habit of being independent while being thoughtful and supportive to others. In addition, I have developed my problem-solving skills, and improved on thinking critically and rationally as well. I think being a part of the student council helped me to communicate with teachers and my classmates better than I did before for that I was their communication bridge for two years. This encouraged me to be confident in public speaking and making announcements. I have always tried to get better at the skill to make the best choice in a small amount of time. That, personally, is an essential stepping stone to success.
I joined the Swim Squad and the Track & Field Team sequentially. Speaking of these two sports teams, I am proud to say that I earned a silver medal for my 50-meter breaststroke in the Middle East Unity Cup in Dubai (April 2017). In addition, a bronze and silver medal for Track & Field Meet in Jordan (April 2018). My time spent on the sports team made me understand the statement “No pain no gain”. I was never physically very strong, so the training was very hard for me. Those practices and competitions made me stronger, more persistent and most of all made me understand that success does not come for nothing. In addition, I love horse riding and have gotten the Christie Henchie Award in my previous school and a certificate of the best improved rider of the year. I’ve always have a little bit of fear every time I ride because I am afraid of falling off but my connection with the horse that I feel when I canter or jump makes me incredibly happy and will sooth me. It gave me the feeling that I could do anything. Riding taught me that failure is a step towards success if you learn from your mistakes. The experience also let me gain more confidence, and gave me the courage to be a risk taker. Those memories have let me tasted the sweet scent of success.
I am also a lover of classical music and a piano player. I have received the Chopin Award by memorizing 5 of his pieces and performing them in front of all the teachers and students in the Senior Section. The Head of Seniors asked me to play for the school assembly. Then, the headmaster asked me to perform on the First Day of School. I have participated in every musical performance or variety show. From all that, I know that to have a talent or a hobby is very important for that it brings us many valuable opportunities. When these events were being carried out, I was at times, terrified of the result. However, when I think about it from now, these are experiences that made me different, and made me more confident.
Now, I have come back to China and is excited to start my new journey at Limai Chinese American (International) School with the Calvert program. The elements of Limai that attracts me the most is that Limai have the most wonderful teachers whom I have ever encountered and the most advanced facilities that I have seen from all the international schools that I have been to. Even though I have studied at Limai for around two months, I felt the warmth of the big community. I was moved by how the teachers are always so supportive and positive towards us, and very thankful for their patience when I have trouble and turn to them in the offices. I can feel that the teachers and students are here for each other and they are helping me to adapt to and be a part of this big community.
Currently, my goal is to create as many paths for my future as possible. This will help me to make my own decisions later on, instead of having only one possible path that will lead to the future. One of my absolute favorite hobbies is listening to classical music, it calms me when I am stressed or depressed. That helps me improve on playing the piano too. I hope that if I keep working on the piano, hopefully I will reach the point of being able to perform professionally. Academics, of course is also important to my future. Therefore, my target is to crash the courses in class and continue practicing piano everyday no matter what or how the day is. I believe that if I continue to develop my hobbies and academics at Limai, I will soon see the change that will affect the rest of my life.
